Difference between revisions 9 and 10

**Eon** (born 313) is a figure of the C9 universe, recorded as homo sapiens (resonant-symbiote variant)[1], one of the young people who formed the House of Confidence on Aerogaea 347n[2]. He came out of the "lost boys" training camps and sub-urban underground[1].

Eon is recorded for resonant mimicry (temporary absorption)[1]. The record notes hypersensitive to electromagnetic frequencies. He can see the flow of electricity in a lock or the heat signature of a footprint. In energy terms he is he acts as a battery. Low base energy, but he can store external energy (power fuses) for later use. He can fold space locally to create shortcuts — up to five. They look like glitches or heat shimmers in the air.[1]

The record follows him across 3 periods of life, from year 325 onward[1]. In the last of them he is recorded as historian.

Eon appears in 6 of the 19 chapters written so far, beginning with Glass House chapter 3[3].

## Early life

Eon was born in year 313[2]. He was 17 years old in 330, the year the Klak Grove was destroyed. Joins after the Lost Boys arc; same age as Akio. The records give his origin as the "lost boys" training camps / sub-urban underground[1]. His development is recorded as parasitic/symbiotic adaptation[1]. His standing at this time was squad leader (failed) / initiate. Physically, lean, scarred from "training," hungry. The record notes slicked-back hair to look professional/disciplined. What defines him in this period is the squad he lost. The trauma that formed his own base personality before he started absorbing others. He survived the camps by being whoever the strongest person in the room needed him to be. He stole skills to survive, discarding the "emotional trash" that came with them. He viewed people as batteries.[1]

## Infiltration specialist (336–349)

His standing at this time was infiltration specialist / the team's therapist (unwilling). Physically, he often unconsciously adopts the posture or habits of whoever he is currently "syncing" with. (e.g., twitching like Sam, or slouching like Akio). What defines him in this period is sam & Marcus. The two people with the heaviest "dirt" he has to carry. He stops stealing and starts borrowing. He asks permission (implicitly). He uses his "Shortcuts" (Spatial Distortion) not to run away, but to get his friends out of trouble.[1]

## Later years (350 onward)

His standing at this time was historian / master thief. Physically, his personality is a patchwork quilt of everyone he has ever fought beside. He is calm because he has processed a thousand lifetimes of grief. What defines him in this period is warning them about the cost of power. When members of the team die or retire, Eon is the only one who can "perform" their signature moves perfectly. He keeps them alive in his muscle memory. He is a living memorial.[1]

## Abilities

 

The mechanism on record is resonant mimicry (temporary absorption)[1].

 

The record notes power Fuse (Trapping). He is taking a "sip" of power and putting it into an object/location as a mine. The effect answers to connection. He must have physical proximity or emotional resonance to copy. The cost of it is residual echoes (the hangover). The Price of Connection: You cannot touch pitch without getting stained. After a battle where he mimics the whole team, Eon suffers from Identity Dysmorphia. ​The Symptom: He forgets his own favorite color. He wakes up reaching for a weapon he doesn't use (Sam's rifle). He has to spend days in isolation to "flush" their personalities out of his system and remember who he is.[1]

 

### Novice

 

He can steal a keycard's code or a simple punch. The record notes high recoil. Passageways are unstable (might collapse while you're in them).[1]

 

### Mastery

 

He can take a "Fireball" from Amaryllis, hold it for an hour, and leave it inside a toilet to explode later. Vision sees through electronic encryption.[1]

 

### Decline/Shift

 

He stops absorbing skills (too painful) and focuses on "sharing" them. He becomes a conduit, letting Marcus borrow Eevi's speed directly through him.[1]

 

## Character

 

His perception runs variable — adjusts to match whoever he is copying. If he copies Eevi, everything speeds up. If he copies Marcus, everything slows and gets heavier. Forced open during a copy. He cannot filter the input. When he copies Sam's aim, he doesn't just get the math; he gets the tremor and the specific fear she feels in that moment. The consequence: he knows everyone's dirt. He knows Akio hates himself. He knows Amaryllis is terrified of suffocating. He holds the entire team's psychological profile in his head, unfiltered. He thinks in intuitive replication. He doesn't learn a move; he becomes the person who made it for a split second. The record notes humor and cynicism. He cracks jokes not because he's funny, but to create distance. If he laughs at you, he doesn't have to cry with you. When the trauma load exceeds a threshold, verbal filters fail and the jokes become inappropriate — a pressure valve.[1]

 

Early in life he held to a lie about hisself: "If I make it a joke, it isn't real." / "I don't have my own trauma, I just borrow yours." / “I'm just a fake. None of this courage is mine” Later he came to hold the opposite: "To understand is to forgive.”. As a young man, his voice was cocky, trying too hard to be the "cool leader.". In his prime it became sarcastic, dry, dark. The guy laughing at the funeral. The record notes dry, observant. "You're favoring your left side, Akio. I can feel the cramp. Switch out, I'll take point.”. In old age it turned soft, schizophrenic (in a gentle way)—he speaks with the cadence of his dead friends.[1]

 

## Structural role — author of book two

 

Eon was inside the wilderness the entire time, writing. The living memorial, the notebooks, the cadence of the dead. He is surfacing in his speech without permission. Leinder writes from the outside, from hindsight, from full completion. He was there, he lived it,. He is writing people he knows and loves and has carried in him for years. The record notes different from Leinder's. Warmer in some places, heavier in others. When he writes the dead, you feel something extra. When he writes Akio's darkest period, he's writing someone he loves who became a stranger for a while and then came back. When he writes Sienna's first Voidomorphian contact, he's reconstructing a night she kept to herself for years — doing his best to give it the weight it deserves. Himself. He is everywhere in Book Two as the voice. He is nowhere in it as a subject. He carries everyone. He is not carried by anyone. Book Two is written by the only person in the House of Confidence who witnessed all the marriages, all the children, all the turns — and recorded none of himself into it except as the hand holding the pen.[1]
